ROMERO, Enrique

A comic artist in Spain since the 1950s, Enrique Badia Romero took over the popular espionage comic strip series Modesty Blaise in 1970 and continued until 1978 when he teamed up with Donne Avenell to create the science-fiction series Axa, which appeared in the British newspaper, The Sun, until late 1985 (unpredictably stopped right in the middle of the 18th, 'The Betrayed' story).
Fortunately, further Axa stories were published as color albums or comics by american publishers Eclipse and Fleetway/Quality since then. In 1986, Romero also returned to draw the 'Modesty Blaise strip again until late 2000.

I always had a weakness for Romero's own created superb Axa character.
I always found reading Axa stories a fresh, liberative and very welcome break moment in the busy week. ...And fact is that I've always had a loving for the free-spirited, liberated, very beautiful young woman, whose haircut I unexplainably adore ! ^^

I can only wish Mr. Romero find other editors to occasionaly publish subsequent Axa albums, why not in Belgium or France ?!
