SILKE, Jim

Jim Silke has pencilled for the most part of his life but really broke through as an 'established' artist in 1994 (then aged 63) with Rascals In Paradise (yet still one trial run to me) and Bettie Page : Queen of the Nile in 1999 for Dark Horse Comics. Silke however remains to me much more a Great Man of Pin-up art (in the classical sense.. yet refined with his own vision of beauty and unique way of rendering it on paper).

Picking up modern as often as classical models as subject, with his straight but accurate style, polished by his fluid and so cool use of colored graphite, watercolor or gouache, Silke simply manages to revamp Pin-up art, coming up with so fine realistic, fresh and fascinating ladies !

I simply find what he does admirable...
