PIKE, Jay Scott

.

Pike was born in Philadelphia in 1924. He enrolled at the Art Students League in New York at the age of sixteen and, after service in the Marines, resumed his art studies at the Parsons School of Design, Syracuse University, and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida.

Even though it seems not to have been common practice to list complete writer/artist credits into comic books at that time, Pike's contribution to the comics world was noticeable as soon as in the early 50s into Atlas (soon to become Marvel) Comics publications, for various genres (many of these Atlas stories were reprinted by Marvel in the 70s). Pike also worked a lot for DC, primarily for romance stories, like Secret Hearts. Most of all, he created the DC character Dolphin in the late 60s.

His good girl art pinup work included succeeding Art Frahm on the "panties-falling-down" series for the A. Fox calendar company, very well know of any classic pinupart fan. As an advertising artist, he also worked on campaigns for major corporate clients like Proctor and Gamble, Pepsi, General Mills, Ford, Borden's, and Trans World Airlines.

Near the close of his commercial career, Pike turned to painting canvases of sensuous fine-art nudes, with a variety of medias and techniques.
