ANDREAE, Jean-Baptiste

JBA is an illustrator from Bordeaux. He had, given his personal abilities, chosen a quite logical and practical approach of his studies, attending and graduating from the School of Fine Arts of Bordeaux. Did most of his first jobs as an illustrator within a few advertising agencies.
J.-B. Andreae seems to have tried himself into comic albums only as of 1993 by the chance of encounters and opportunities...

As usual late in discovering stuff, have discovered his touch being hooked by the peculiar looking of dedication drawings or sketches shown onto afew blogs on the net.
And then pushing some web research ^^ (got to say the guy seemingly has an edge with watercolor).

But what I appreciate most of all in what I've seen here or there so far is :
- the quite singular of his lines (for example his giving attractive girls some big heads with sometimes large forehead and unfamiliar features, yet eventually very feminine and very expressive ; his take in offbeat masculine or even half-animal quite peculiar characters), a somewhat new aesthetics to me ;
- the variety of media he uses -or maybe tries?-, the unfinished/avorted attempts (that have this undeniable "authentic" quality collectors of "original" pieces do so cherish) keeping nonetheless some brilliant shading or coloring directions.
My sorries for limiting the collecting glimpse on his artwork to pinups and GGA mainly (his graphical scope staying far broader of course), but am really fan of his approach and lines on the female form, whatever the specific purpose.
