YEAGLE, Dean
.
Fan of Disney since his youngest age, Yeagle spent most of his time drawing... No wonder he quite naturally attended an art school after graduating from
High School, but quitted after one year. He nonetheless began a career of animator with a summer job in a small studio in Philadelphia. After four years spent
in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war, he went to New York and got to work for Jack Zander (who once animated Tom and Jerry cartoons for MGM) in his Animation
Parlour. Seven years later, he tried freelance and works on projects for the most part of the NY animation studios, before creating his own, "Caged Beagle", in
1986. In 2003, Yeagle is nominated by the National Cartoonist Society for his gag cartoon contributions in Playboy magazine. In fact, his delicious good-natured
Playboy cartoons' large success has opened an additional entirely new career path, as a cartoon pinup artist. Though I'm a little less familiar with Yeagle's
participation in Playboy than with Doug Sneyd's watercolours, LeRoy Neiman's femlin drawings or Horacio Altuna short comic stories for example, I discovered
visiting ComicArtFans once that the sweet Mandy first appeared in the magazine..
I keep looking animators' pieces of work with children eyes.. to me, the ability to provide life and expression to characters (most often regardless human or
not), making them no matter the situation as readable as your most familiar relative stays a matter of amazement and an I'd say almost divine gift.
As long as Yeagle treats Mandy (and his other pinup girls) the way he treats every character he renders, that's to say as an animated matter subject, providing her
with extremely transparent expressions and maliciously capturing her (which he does with benevolence) in improbable (hey, and somewhat embarrassing!!) hilarious
everyday life circumstances, he can only provide us with admirable artworks of the attaching blondehead... ^^
O_o . .'... But.. what are you doing, Mandy ??' .
