AZPIRI, Alfonso

Alfonzo Azpiri was born in Madrid in 1947, into a family of musicians. Heading towards a pianist career, his inclination to drawing (very young already he developed a passion for comics) got the better of a musician living.
His universe ranges from heroic fantasy to fantasy genre and science fiction, almost always with a more or less decidedly erotic slant. In the 1970s, he works a lot for the erotico-fantasy pocket press, and number of his stories has been translated and published in a number of magazines, including Heavy Metal and Penthouse Comix. Or gathered as books at Norma Editorial or Soleil Productions. His style being easily recognizable, especially his lavishly elegant and sensual, pouting or uninhibited and rambunctious females. Lorna soon becomes one of his most recurring characters.
Aside that, Azpiri realized a good forty illustrations for the biggest spanish video games studios like Dinamic Software, Topo Soft or Opera Soft.

I myself kinda fav the crispy fun and free spirit aesthetics of his Mastia era body of work, these short adult unserious stories succession achieved in b&w inks only and where Lorna stayed a mere (biology?) benevolent "professor", before Azpiri turned her more into a tough bounty hunter/spy girl. But Azpiri stays obviously a master of watercolor use : aside stunning full covers my favorite colored page could be in Lorna - The Eye of Dart-An-Gor, page 11, with a supernatural gorgeous Lorna facial closeup in second line...
